Rev.
W. C.
Ervin
III
The Reverend W. C. Ervin III was born on May 23, 1952, as the second child of Rev. W. C. Ervin, Jr. and the late Mrs. Lucinder McCullough Ervin, in Andrews South Carolina, Georgetown County. Reverend W. C. Ervin III is a graduate of South Carolina State College with a degree in Civil Engineering Technology. He has earned his Masters of Divinity from the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University, Dallas Texas. Reverend Ervin served as a Captain in the US Army where his last active duty assignment was that of Company Commander of a 145 soldier Combat Engineers unit. Later he served as a Cost Center Manager at Texas Instruments for 13 years before entering into the ministry 'fulltime' in 1993. Additionally, in the past, he has worked as a licensed Real Estate agent. In 1980 Reverend Ervin was licensed to preach in the South Dallas District of the North Texas Conference by Presiding Elder H. F. Dodson. He received his first pastoral appointment to the Elkhart Circuit of the Northeast Texas Conference in 1983 as an Itinerant Deacon from Bishop Henry Wendell Murph. Reverend Ervin was ordained an Itinerant Elder in the North Texas Annual Conference by Bishop Rembert E. Stokes in 1984. In November 2002, at the Planning Meeting of the Tenth Episcopal District, the Lord and Bishop McKinley Young took him out of the pastoral ministry, which he so dearly loved, and appointed him as the Presiding Elder of the Brenham District. After the reorganization of the Tenth Episcopal District at the 2004 General Conference, and later that year at the Planning Meeting of the Tenth Episcopal District, Bishop Gregory G.M. Ingram appointed Presiding Ervin as the Presiding Elder of the newly formed Tyler District. As God's providence has so ordered, the Tyler District is in the same geographical area where his pastoral ministry began in 1983.
During his nineteen years as a pastor, Rev. Ervin was truly been blessed. There have been 15 (fifteen) ministers who have been licensed to preach under his leadership. Over thirty ministries and outreach programs have been established during his pastoral career, many of which are still very vibrant. Reverend Ervin's primary focus as a pastor was in the area of leadership development at all levels and all ages. He believes that as believers, God requires us to prepare those who are and will eventually replace us. Currently, Reverend Ervin is now serving in his second year as the Presiding Elder of the Tyler District, which has truly been a blessing to his ministry. Now in his fourth year as a presiding elder, he is now implementing some of his long- standing and successful principles of leadership development. This can be seen best in the manner in which he conducts the Quarterly Conferences, where he inspires and challenges key leaders to truly commit themselves to the work of the Lord, as he constantly reminds those in attendance that "Church Work is Work!!" Since August 25, 1975, he has been married to The Reverend Betty Bryant Ervin, his high school sweetheart. Her home is in Sampit Section of Georgetown County. They dated seven years prior to getting married. Together they have three children, Luisa Batrice Ervin Cook, Alicia JoLinda Ervin and William Michael Ervin. Seven grandchildren, Eli'Jah Jamal Ervin, Jeruel Urijah Cook, Zavuan Sylvester Foley, Schilicia Ameil Cook, Imani Rankin, Meleke Beverly and Michael Lee Ervin. All grandchildren are between the ages 2 and 6 years old. This husband and wife ministerial team both graduated from Rosemary High School, Andrews South Carolina in 1970. |
